As Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer, Daniel is responsible for management of the firm and of the funds. He leads the Investment Committee and the Management Committee and serves on the Compliance Committee. Daniel marked the beginning of his career in 1989 at Manufacturers Hanover Trust where he was involved in Mexico’s sovereign debt restructuring under the first application of the Brady Plan, which is largely recognized as one of the earliest debt restructurings of scale on record. Dan is proficient in Spanish. He is based in New York.
Prior to founding Argentem Creek in 2015, Daniel was responsible for all emerging markets risk taking activity within high-yield, structured, and distressed corporate credit at Black River Asset Management. In this role, he oversaw a global team responsible for analyzing, sourcing, trading and investing in emerging markets credit. Prior to joining Black River in 2004, Daniel was with JP Morgan New York for fifteen years, most recently as a Managing Director responsible for the distressed debt trading business. In 1989, he joined Manufacturers Hanover Trust, which through a series of mergers became the current JP Morgan Chase, where he worked as an analyst and went on to establish the corporate credit trading desk in 1990. As the company underwent a series of mergers to become JP Morgan, Daniel managed various parts of the corporate credit business in emerging markets, most recently in the area of distressed corporate debt. He managed both proprietary risk as well as a client flow book. He was also responsible for managing sourcing efforts, directing credit analysts in the development of analytics, and working with legal counsel to develop strategies and manage legal issues related to workouts.
Daniel graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1989 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business.
As President and Chief Operating Officer, Charles is responsible for formulating and implementing the firm’s strategic plan while ensuring that the business is operationally sound. He impacts the investment process by serving as a portfolio strategist and by leading the firm’s risk effort. He serves on the Management, Investment, Risk Management, Valuation and Compliance Committees. Charles is based in New York.
Prior to joining Argentem Creek at its inception, Charles was a Portfolio Strategist for the emerging markets credit team at Black River Asset Management. Beginning in 2012, he was a partner and chief investment officer for Stride Capital Group, a multi-manager firm focused on seeding investment managers. In 2013, Charles became a partner at Barnstar Funds, a special situations investment manager seeded by Stride, where he developed, implemented and led all non-investment related activities. From 2003 until 2011, Charles was a founding investment director of Angelo Gordon’s fund-of-funds business, where he was responsible for building a multi-manager investment business, which was sold to Carleon Capital Partners at the end of 2010. From 1994 until 1999 and from 2001 until 2003, he was at SEI Investments, first as a Senior Investment Analyst focused on manager sourcing, due diligence and oversight of SEI’s international equity funds and then as a Portfolio Manager. When he returned to SEI in 2001, he was a Director focused on product development. From 1999 to 2001, Charles was an early employee at InvestorForce, where he was responsible for the firm’s investment and technology products, ultimately becoming a Senior Vice President.
Charles graduated with honors from Lehigh University in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
As Global Head of Business Development, Angela’s role encompasses capital formation, client service and branding. She is the firm’s chief relationship manager for prospects and clients alike. She has 21 years of relevant experience working with and for hedge funds and hedge fund clients. Angela serves on the Management Committee and the Compliance Committee. She is based in Minneapolis.
Prior to joining Argentem Creek at its inception, Angela was at O’Brien-Staley Partners for two years as a Managing Director focused on helping the firm launch its first fund. In 2007, she was hired at Pine River Capital Management as their first marketer and investor relations professional. Angela was responsible for capital raising and client service as Director of Marketing and Investor Relations and then later in her tenure was a Managing Director and member of various committees. Prior to Pine River, Angela was on the Prime Brokerage team at Banc of America Securities in Chicago for three years where she worked with Midwest-based institutional hedge fund investors including pensions, endowments, foundations, family offices and hedge fund of funds to enable them to find relevant hedge fund investments. Earlier in her career, she was a Vice President and Senior Research Analyst at USBancorp Piper Jaffray, where she was a health care stock analyst, and a consultant at Arthur Andersen LLP in Chicago, where she was in the Hedge Fund Advisory Group.
Angela currently serves on the Investment Committee for the Northwest Area Foundation and is a member of 100 Women in Finance. In 2007, she founded the Twin Cities Committee of Help for Children (f/k/a Hedge Funds Care). In 2011, Angela was named a Hedge Fund Rising Star by Institutional Investor. She graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Accounting and an MBA in Finance and Taxation.
As General Counsel, Ben is responsible for all legal aspects of fund and account formation, for coordinating the legal analysis of certain investments and jurisdictions and for advising the investment team. Ben serves on the Management, Investment, Risk Management, Valuation and Compliance Committees. He is based in Minneapolis.
Prior to joining Argentem Creek in April 2016, Ben spent five years at Pine River Capital Management, first as Corporate Counsel and ultimately as a Managing Director and Deputy General Counsel. He was responsible for all legal matters related to fund formation, documentation, and administration of Pine River’s master-feeder hedge fund structures, separate accounts, single investor funds, mutual funds, committed capital funds and Luxembourg trading vehicles. Ben assisted the compliance function by drafting policies and procedures and responding to regulator inquiries. From 2007 through 2010, Ben worked as an Associate at Faegre & Benson LLP in its private equity mergers and acquisitions group and later in its investment management practice, where he advised hedge funds, venture capital funds, and private equity funds on formations, restructurings and regulatory issues. From 2003 through 2004, Ben worked on the equities trading desk at Piper Jaffray & Co.
Ben graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hamilton College in 1998 and with a Juris Doctor from William Mitchell in 2007. From 2000 to 2003, he served in the US Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia and in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as an infantry battalion communications officer.
